Weight training is also something important, as you will not only need the additional strength that comes from lifting weights but it also can help the body to get ready for the abuse that it is going to take on the field. Finally, you need to make sure that you are as limber as possible and for that, stretching exercises need to be done.
As far as the cardiovascular training is concerned, this is something that everybody needs but it is really going to depend on your position as to how much you will get. A wide receiver, for example, is going to need a lot of cardiovascular training as they will be running up and down the field during the entire game. A lineman, on the other hand, does need to make sure that they are ready to run when necessary but more than likely, their job is going to be blocking for the majority of the game.
Weight training is also very important, as lean muscle mass can help to make you stronger on the field and can keep you from getting injured. Again, this is going to depend upon your position as to what type of weight training you re going to do. There are some positions on the field, such as being on the line where you re going to want to make sure that you have as much weight behind you as possible. On the other hand, a receiver or the man that covers him is going to need to make sure that they are limber and light, although they certainly would want to have a good deal of healthy muscle available.
Stretching is something that everybody needs, regardless of whether they are on the football field or not. If they do not stretch properly, injury will soon follow and almost anybody will be out of the game quickly. If you re being hit regularly, such as the ball carrier, you will find your body twisted into all kinds of shapes. This is also true of blockers, although it may not happen as often. By making sure that you are limber through stretching exercises, you help to round out your football workouts and give yourself everything that you need.
