The Department of Defense (DoD) established guidelines for all members of its Information Assurance (IA) workforce in 2004 when it released the DoD 8570 Directive. The DoD 8570 Directive was entitled, �Information Assurance (IA) Training,,, Certification,Cross Bows � Since Departed Mature, and Workforce Management." The directive is also known as the Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program.
The security of data has grown extremely important with the Department of Defense since the events of September 11,custom bobbleheads, 2001. Ensuring that its workforce involved with sensitive and personal data is well-trained and hold the appropriate security certifications has been a mandate of the DoD. The DoD 8570 Directive further defined what security certifications are necessary for the IA professionals within the agency.

The guidelines required that DoD baseline certifications were met by IA personnel by the year 2010. The CompTIA Security+ certification was developed by the non-profit Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). CompTIA was established in 1982 by several microcomputer dealerships. CompTIA certifications were developed to give entry-level workforce a means to develop their credentials for higher level certifications. CompTIA Security+ certification is also tailored to provide different certifications for the different levels of experience and responsibilities of the IA workforce. The CompTIA certificates are universally accepted as pre-requisites by entities such as Microsoft,custom bobblehead, ISACA, and Novell for those seeking higher-level certifications.
CompTIA Security+ certification meets the certification requirements of DoD 8570 that addresses four categories of the government IA workforce,custom bobbleheads. The categories include Information Assurance Manager (IAM), Information Assurance Technician (IAT),customized bobbleheads, Information Assurance System Architect and Engineer (IASAE) and Computer Network Defense (CND). CompTIA Security+ training is available for each of these categories with certifications that apply to each area and at different experience levels.
The DoD 8570 Directive has given the Department of Defense clear guidance on how to bring its IA workforce into compliance with standards already in use by other entities in the public and private sectors.
