Learn About The Game Of Golf And How To Improve

Golf is a ball game played with a stick or a club. It is played on a specially designed ground. It is called a golf course. The playing area has holes and the player has to hit the ball into the holes with minimum strokes following the rules.

Each golf course has 18 holes. It is considered standard golf course but you can find some variations in the ground. Some of the golf courses have only nine holes so the player has to hit the holes twice to complete one game.

You will find that the course consists of different area, series of holes and grass. There is a teeing area from where you start off the game; Fairway is the area from where the player hits the ball from where it has landed after teeing. The grass in that area is cut short. This evenly cut grass or turf is beneficial to the players to hit the ball.

The area between the fairway and the out of bounds markers is called the rough. The grass in this area is cut higher than the fairway. This creates some difficulty in hitting the ball.

When you look at a golf course many times you will find some water body such as a river or a lake, dense vegetation and man made bunkers or sand traps. These are called hazards. Theses hazards increase the excitement of the game. There are special rules about how to play in theses areas.

Apart from the main golf course where you can enjoy a game you will find that there is an area designated particularly for practice. In this area there are markers to show the distance from the hole. It helps the golfer to improve his technique.

Designing a golf course is a challenging task in itself. Generally the natural landscape or layout of the area is kept intact but some times modifying the layout of the area becomes inevitable. Bunkers and sand traps are normally manmade.

During last fifty years environmental issues have grown up over golf courses. The amount of water used to keep the turf on the golf course is the bone of contention. Many people see that as a waste of a very useful resource. Some places golf courses are made without considering the impact on the biodiversity of the place. Some of them hamper the corridors of migrating animals and other wildlife.

With modern technology now golf courses can be built on abandoned farms or along coasts. In many countries there are strict norms are in place. You have to follow those norms if you want to build a new golf course. Generally this game is associated with the rich people. It is also looked as a culture of globalization of non native land ethics. So you find strong resistance to the golf expansion.

Resistance or the environmental issues are hampering the expansion of golf courses. But for some golf enthusiasts a game of golf after a grueling day at office is the best thing to unwind.
